About Navajo (Nav)
Navajo, a charming 6.5-year-old, 75-pound Pitbull mix, is ready to be your loyal and loving adventure buddy! This sweet, affectionate, and easygoing pup offers the perfect blend of playful energy and relaxed companionship. Navajo is just as happy joining you for a daily walk as he is curling up nearby for a cozy evening at home.
Navajo enjoys playing with other dogs, preferring one-on-one or small group interactions over large, boisterous packs. His play style is adaptable; sometimes he's full of zoomies, and other times he's content to sniff and explore. He generally reads social cues well but may occasionally need gentle redirection if he gets a bit too excited. He has done well with dogs of all sizes and tends to be most comfortable with dogs his own size or smaller, and proper introductions are key for success with larger dogs. He attends daycare regularly and has made great progress with his doggy manners.
On leash, Navajo is polite and non-reactive. He can walk past dogs and squirrels without issue, though he might pull a little at the start of walks when he's excited. Once he settles in, he's a very pleasant walking partner. He is fully house-trained and crate-trained, though he doesn't need to be crated at home and will happily nap in his crate with the door open. He can be left loose in the house when you're away and has shown no signs of separation anxiety. At home, he's calm, chill, and easy to live with.
Navajo loves meeting new people and greets strangers with friendliness, unless he's busy sniffing something interesting! He has done well around children and has shown no concerns, so he would likely thrive in a home with kids. Interactions with very young children, however, haven't been fully tested. He would do best in a cat-free home, as he has shown a strong prey drive and fixation toward cats.
Navajo is affectionate, playful, smart, curious, silly, and independent. He adores toys and often greets his people proudly carrying his favorite stuffed animal. He's also a champion cuddler who loves being close to his people. Bonus traits include being an excellent car rider, great at the vet (a staff favorite!), having no issues with stairs, and loving cozy, unusual nap spots like laundry baskets or bathtubs. He has shown no resource guarding with food, treats, toys, or people.
Ideal Home
Navajo would thrive in a stable, moderately active home that enjoys daily walks, occasional outings, and lots of affection. He doesn't need an ultra-active lifestyle, just consistent exercise, love, and companionship. He could do well as an only dog or with a compatible canine friend.
Ongoing Health
Navajo needed dental work upon arrival to foster care, and several damaged teeth, including his canines, were removed. His remaining teeth are healthy, and he still happily chews his favorite bones without any trouble.
Training & Support
Navajo is house-trained and crate-trained. He has no known behavioral issues that need significant work, but as with any dog, continued positive reinforcement and consistent routines will help him continue to thrive.
