Drake
is
a beautiful
9
-year-old
male
Black Labrador M
ix
(knows the name Rebel)
.
Drake was a SAAP dog and was adopted into a loving family at about the age of 1
and was returned recently because his owner
went into a nursing home
.
He is
looking for that special someone to love
him
for the remaining
years
of his life
because he has a lot of love to give back
.
He is a very quick learner and adjusted easily to our routine for feeding, walking, potty
breaks,
and bedtime
.
He weighs about 100 pounds but really does not eat as much as you would think.
He loves, loves, loves men. When Foster dad comes into the house, Drake is wiggling every part of his body in happiness
.
He loves women and kids too, but he adores men. He gets excited around kids but due to his size would recommend older kids that won’t get knocked over easily. He does not jump up on anyone and usually only barks when the resident dogs bark.
Drake
is not a sofa sleeper but
does like
to be nearby you when he sleeps
.
At night
, he
usually just sle
e
ps
on the floor
in the bedroom where foster
parents
sleep.
This guy loves to sleep but is always ready to go romp around the fenced in yard with the resident dogs.
A
fenced
yard and a tether
are
recommended until he gets use to his new yard.
He does like to lay by the front door and watch the world go by
.
Slow introductions
to other dogs in the
household
is recommended
and is doing fine
in a household with a
B
eagle
, Australian
Shepherd,
and a
R
etriever
.
Do not know about
indoor
cats
.
This
gentle
male
is house
trained,
and crate trained
and up to date on
his
shots.
A crate is recommended if he is left alone for
a while
. He likes to check out what is in the garbage when nobody is looking
(
h
is
only
bad habit)
.
When
animals come into SAAP’s care
, our
vets always do a thorough
examine
to see if they need any special care. Drake did have a lump removed from his back
right
leg
that was tested
and showed
sarcoma, which
is considered
a cancer and can recur but usually does not spread
.
The margins were clean and that is great new
s
, but local recurrence is still possible so he will need his new owner
just to watch for recurrence long term.
He is on
no
long-term
medicine and has completed his medicine from the lump removal.
He is a special
loving
senior,
and foster
parents
expect him to
be
adopted quickly
.
