Meet Louie! Louie is a 1-year-old Staffordshire Terrier/Australian Shepherd mix with a heart as big as his smile. He may take a little time to warm up to new people, but once he trusts you, he's devoted for life. Louie was deeply devoted to his previous family, including children. As he matured, his herding instincts would sometimes be triggered by the high-energy play of younger children, leading his owners to seek a home better suited to his needs. He would likely be happiest in a home with older children who are past the constant running and chasing phase.
Once Louie settles in and feels safe, his playful personality truly shines! He loves playing with his dog friends, chasing his favorite Kong Frisbee, and showing off his bouncy energy. He's also a champion lounger, happy to relax after a fun day. Louie loves to learn and is treat-motivated, already knowing commands like "sit," "shake," and "down." Training helps him feel confident, especially in new situations. He is house-trained, crate-trained, and has done well when left alone for shorter periods. On walks, he appreciates a patient handler as unfamiliar situations can make him nervous. He's currently walked in a harness and sometimes with a second leash for added safety as he builds confidence. Louie adores other dogs and draws confidence from their presence, often helping him feel more comfortable meeting new people. He has not yet been tested with cats. Like many enthusiastic dogs, Louie can get carried away when excited, sometimes resulting in enthusiastic jumps. He'll do best with a family committed to continuing his training to help him practice keeping all four paws on the ground when greeting people.
