Hi, I'm Layla! I may be a little shy when we first meet, and I'll probably bark when new people come into the house, but give me a chance to sniff you and I'll be happy to make a new friend. Once I trust you, I'm a sweet, affectionate girl who loves being outside, going for walks, playing with toys, and even splashing around in the water.
I came from a neglectful situation where I lived outside with badly matted fur, so learning to trust people took a little time. With patience, kindness, and a fresh haircut, I discovered just how good ear scratches, cozy laps, and being loved can be.
I'm mostly house trained and have a funny little routine when it's potty time. I also ride wonderfully in the car and will happily sit quietly on your lap. Right now I'm completely obsessed with my Santa stuffie. I even carry it outside with me when I go potty! I also love a good chew, but I prefer to enjoy my favorite toys and treats without other dogs getting too close, so I'll need someone who understands how to manage my space around other pets.
I can get anxious and vocal in a crate, so I'm hoping to find a family that will help me continue building confidence. If you're willing to give me a little patience at first, you'll discover a loyal, loving companion with plenty of personality and an adorable collection of quirks that will keep you smiling.
Ideal Home
Layla needs a home where her space around other pets can be managed, as she prefers to enjoy her toys and treats without other dogs getting too close. She can become anxious and vocal in a crate, so a home that can help her build confidence without one would be ideal.
Ongoing Health
Layla is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease and requires activity restriction for several weeks during her recovery. The rescue will cover the full cost of treatment and provide heartworm preventatives until her retest is due. The adopter will be responsible for scheduling the retest and obtaining any follow-up prescriptions through their veterinarian.
