Gingersnap, affectionately known as Ginger or Gingey, is a spunky and adorable 9-year-old, 9lb Pekingese mix with a heart of gold. She was found as a stray in Houston and, though her past is a mystery, she's clearly a survivor who deserves a loving and comfortable forever home. Ginger is a friendly and confident girl with a low to medium energy level, making her a delightful companion. She's a social butterfly who enjoys playing with most dogs, especially other small pups, and has even found a special friend in her foster home. Ginger is already potty trained, crate trained, and a dream in the car and on leash. She sees her crate as her "zen den," a safe space for relaxation. While she had a few initial accidents, she's been accident-free since, and shows no signs of separation anxiety.
Ideal Home
Gingersnap would thrive in a home with another very playful small dog, as she enjoys both active play and quiet downtime. Her adopter should be committed to continuing basic command training for her safety. While she's adaptable to various home environments, a home without young children would be best due to her occasional startle reflex.
Ongoing Health
Gingersnap is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, which is expected to be completed in September.
Training & Support
Gingersnap is potty trained and crate trained. She can be startled if surprised, but is becoming less reactive in her foster home as she adjusts to her routine and people. Continuing basic command training will be beneficial for her ongoing safety and confidence.
