Meet Hattie, a sweet yet spunky girl who will show you all the love that special needs fosters can offer! Hattie is 3 years old, weighs 35 lbs, and has hydrocephalus, which has caused blindness. However, this condition doesn't slow her down one bit!
Hattie was born with fluid on her brain. She currently takes an anti-seizure medication and has been doing well with that management in her foster home. We would love to find an adopter experienced with hydrocephalus, as these dogs have unique qualities that will make a transition easier for an experienced owner.
Hattie has lived in her foster home since she was three months old and thrives on a strict routine. She doesn't like any changes to that routine, so her foster will want to visit with potential adopters to ensure a similar routine can be established in her new home. Hattie will need time to learn a new environment on her terms and cannot be rushed into adjustments. While she enjoys the company of other dogs, she doesn't interact with them a lot and may relax and watch others play rather than participate. She will never be a highly cuddly dog.
Hattie lives with foster siblings of all ages and sizes and does well with everyone in her own way. She is allowed to explore new foster siblings on her own terms. While she is generally good with potty training, due to her condition, she will occasionally have accidents as hydrocephalic dogs may not always fully grasp the concept of potty training.
Ideal Home
Hattie needs a home with a fenced yard; apartments will not be considered.
Ongoing Health
Hattie has hydrocephalus, which has caused blindness. She takes an anti-seizure medication (Keppra 500mg twice per day, estimated cost $30/month). She is spayed, up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, heart-worm negative, and micro-chipped.
Training & Support
Hattie thrives on a strict routine and does not adapt well to change. She needs time to adjust to new environments on her own terms. She is not a dog that enjoys being forced into interactions or fast adjustments.
