Toro is a sweet and gentle boy, born in January of 2023. He loves all people and other dogs, and is still unproven with cats. He learns quickly and responds well to training, and is already house-trained. While he dislikes his crate, he's trustworthy when left to his own devices. Toro can be a bit of a goofball and sometimes misses social cues from other dogs, but his playful spirit is endearing. He's a big fan of food and will need to be crated or otherwise contained while eating to prevent any competition.
Ideal Home
We recommend obedience training for all newly adopted Great Pyrenees to help build a strong bond and ensure good behavior. Great Pyrenees are independent thinkers, so while they are willing to learn, they may not be as eager to comply with commands as other breeds. Applicants must be over 25, own their own home, and all children in the household must be over 18 years old. Resident pets must be up-to-date on vaccines, sterilized, have a good history of vet care for the past two years, and have been on year-round heartworm preventative with proof of purchase. A securely fenced yard, accessible from the home, is a must. Invisible fencing is not recommended for this breed as they may ignore the shock for the freedom to roam. Great Pyrenees are not suited for off-leash activity and cannot be trusted not to run away.
Ongoing Health
No specific ongoing health concerns are noted in the description, but please note that any veterinary expenses incurred during the initial trial period are the adopter's responsibility unless the organization is notified prior to a vet visit.
Training & Support
Toro is house-trained but dislikes his crate. He can be a bit oblivious to social cues from other dogs. Due to his love of food, he needs to be contained when eating. We recommend obedience training for all newly adopted Great Pyrenees to help foster a strong bond and ensure they are well-behaved.
