Shelby is a happy, goofy, and affectionate 6-month-old spayed female Shepherd/Hound/Terrier mix who weighs 39 pounds and is expected to be a large dog when fully grown. She has a long body type and is currently residing in a foster home in Washougal, Washington. Shelby, her sister, and their mom were rescued from a shelter in San Antonio, Texas, after spending 40 days there. She has truly thrived in foster care and is now ready to find her forever home!
Shelby is a joy to be around, bringing warmth and delight into every space. She's curious about the world, eager to learn, and deeply bonded with her people.
Ideal Home
Shelby would thrive in an active home that enjoys a dog's companionship and attention. She would love a family that is patient with puppy training and wants an affectionate family member to include in hikes, walks, yard play, or simply spending time together. She enjoys the company of other dogs and may benefit from having a canine companion, though she can succeed as an only dog if her social and activity needs are met. She has done wonderfully with older children and would likely do well with younger children, provided they understand puppy behavior and are patient with training and supervision.
Ongoing Health
Shelby is a healthy puppy.
Training & Support
Shelby is still working on house training but has made significant progress and is expected to master it quickly with consistency. She sleeps through the night in her crate and tolerates crating, but prefers to be near her people and other dogs. She may bark briefly when crated during the day but will settle. She should not be crated excessively. Shelby needs continued basic training, but has already learned to sit, walks nicely on a harness, and plays appropriately with toys and bones. She would benefit from a slow feeder for meals. While she has shown mild growling with her sister over toys, this appears to be puppy competition for attention rather than true resource guarding.
