Cozette is a delightful 5-year-old Shih Tzu, weighing in at a petite 6.5-7 pounds. She arrived at our sanctuary as part of an owner surrender due to their medical emergency. Cozette is a rare liver-hued Shih Tzu with hair, not fur, and she's one of the smallest we've ever cared for! Her hair will continue to grow and requires professional grooming every 4-6 weeks, along with the associated maintenance and cost. Cozette is known for her bright, extroverted, and happy personality. She's the life of the party, loves to greet everyone with a hug, and has a contagious joy for life.
Ideal Home
Cozette thrives in a home where people are around most of the time, as she loves to be by your side, sharing your sofa and bedroom. She needs companionship day and night and will not do well if left completely alone. She can be okay if you're away for a few hours, but only if other canine companions are present. Older children will be considered on a case-by-case basis, provided they have experience with dogs, understand dog behavior, and show great respect. Cozette is not to be crated. A secure, fenced-in backyard is ideal but not required.
Ongoing Health
Cozette is spayed and up-to-date on her Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, and Corona/flu vaccines. She tested negative for heartworm, Lyme, ehrlichia, and anaplasmosis on a 4DX test. She had a dental cleaning and bloodwork in June 2026, with results within normal ranges. A gingival mass was removed and tested, proving to be benign. She is microchipped, has had a negative fecal test, and is current on flea/tick prevention, heartworm prevention, and dewormer. A good health certificate will be provided with her medical records.
Training & Support
Cozette is learning to get familiar with a harness and leash, and we are working on basic commands like "sit," "recall," and "look." Continued training sessions with her new family are expected to help her safety and integration. Basic foundational skills training with a certified professional positive reinforcement trainer is required for adoption.
