Meet Murphy!
Murphy is a goofy and affectionate two-year-old Labrador Retriever mix with floppy ears and a charming golden coat. He's a big-hearted pup, weighing about 70 pounds, who greets every day with playful energy and happy tail wags. Murphy "talks" with little noises, making it seem like he's trying to communicate his thoughts and feelings. He loves long walks, breezy car rides, chew toys, and zooming around the yard. He's a smart dog who responds well to clicker training and is eager to learn more with positive reinforcement. He already knows "sit" and "lay down" and is making great progress on "stay" and "recall." Murphy is very social with other dogs and would do well with a confident canine friend to help him feel secure. Doggie daycare is a favorite spot for him, where he really comes out of his shell. He enjoys settling into a routine at home, snuggling on his bed or the couch for quiet time.
Ideal Home
Murphy would thrive in a home with a confident canine companion to show him the ropes. A home without children is recommended due to his anxiety around unfamiliar or chaotic environments and fear-based behaviors when feeling trapped.
Ongoing Health
Murphy has some anxiety and has shown fear-based behaviors, including three instances where he nipped or bit. These were fear-based reactions, not aggression. He can be nervous around some men, though he has made progress. He benefits from a mindful diet, as chicken may contribute to his skin sensitivities, so it has been removed from his diet as a precaution. Regular soothing baths help keep his skin comfortable.
Training & Support
Murphy has made great progress with consistent training, patience, and love. He'll do best with a calm, experienced pet parent who understands anxiety and reactivity and can continue supporting his confidence. Slow introductions to new people and surroundings, along with consistency and gentle guidance, will help him blossom.
