Steven (Neutered) (Photos 12/7/2024) [Bonded Pair w/Arlo]

Steven is a handsome 4-year-old male American Staffordshire Terrier mix with a chocolate brown-and-white coat, a long tail, and an adorable chubby face. He was found with his best friend, Arlo, and neither of them were microchipped or wearing collars. Steven is a very frightened boy who expresses his fear by barking loudly and rapidly when approached or made eye contact. Our dedicated kennel techs are working hard to earn his trust. He and Arlo are currently enjoying their own 'bachelor's pad' outside of a kennel, which seems to help Steven feel more at ease. He even gets brave enough for pets when he sees Arlo enjoying them!

Ideal Home

Steven would do best in a home that understands his fear-based behaviors and can provide him with patience and reassurance. He cannot live with cats, as he does not accept them into his circle of friends and cannot be trusted to be nice to them.

Ongoing Health

Steven was neutered on September 24, 2025, and received a rabies vaccination.

Training & Support

Steven is still learning to trust humans and needs a patient adopter to help him overcome his fears. His barking is a sign of his anxiety. Observing Arlo's positive interactions with people seems to encourage Steven, so a home where he can see his bonded companion gain confidence may be beneficial.
