Meet Ernie!

If you've ever wished your favorite stuffed animal could magically come to life, then Ernie is the dog for you! This handsome chocolate Lab/Staffy mix is a big, strong hunk of a dog with the sweetest, squishiest personality. He's got a happy pittie smile, soulful amber eyes, adorable forehead wrinkles, and enough charm to keep you smiling every day. Ernie is the definition of a good boy: he's fully potty trained, crate trained, walks wonderfully on leash, knows "sit," and has fantastic house manners. He's been living with two other large dogs in his foster home and has been absolutely amazing with them. Honestly, he's the kind of dog that makes you wonder how he's still waiting for his forever family.

Ernie's absolute favorite thing in the world is his people. He's a lover through and through, happy to be by your side whether you're sitting down or enjoying the outdoors. He just wants to be wherever his favorite humans are, and he loves being included in family activities, like hanging out on the patio.

When he's not showering his people with affection, Ernie is perfecting his signature move: the sploot! He elevates splooting into an art form, whether he's walking across the yard, playing outside, or just contemplating his next move. It's as if his brain randomly decides, "You know what would improve this situation? Laying completely flat on the ground." He simply feels called to sploot, and we respect the commitment!

When he's not splooting, Ernie can usually be found carrying around one of his beloved stuffed toys. He's obsessed with giant plushies and proudly parades them around like priceless treasures. Watching this big, muscular boy delicately carry a giant stuffie is one of the cutest things you'll ever see.

Ernie is also a social butterfly with other dogs and absolutely loves to play. Chase is his favorite game, and he'll happily zoom around the yard with his doggy friends until everyone is smiling. He's playful without being overwhelming and has done beautifully sharing his foster home with two other big dogs. And when the zoomies are over, it's instant cuddle mode! Ernie has an incredible off-switch and is just as happy curling up beside you for a quiet evening as he is playing outside. He truly offers the best of both worlds: a fun, goofy adventure buddy during the day and a calm, snuggly couch companion at night. He was also wonderful with children, showing just how gentle this big guy really is. He seemed to instinctively understand that little humans needed extra kindness, making him a respectful and loving companion.

The only thing Ernie doesn't want to share his life with is cats. He's made it pretty clear they're just a little too exciting, so he'd do best in a cat-free home.

Ernie is one of those rare dogs who seems to have it all: handsome, hilarious, affectionate, incredibly well-mannered, dog-friendly, easy to live with, and overflowing with love. He's entertaining without being chaotic, playful without being overwhelming, and cuddly enough to make every day just a little bit better. He's the kind of dog who makes ordinary days feel special, greeting you with the biggest smile, proudly delivering his favorite stuffed animal, and making everyone around him laugh. Ernie is located in Texas and can be transported nationwide via our rescue's USDA-certified transport system. There is an $87 surcharge for transportation.
