Joy is a sweet little girl with a bit of a spicy side. She absolutely loves people, kids, cats, and male dogs of all sizes. However, she strongly dislikes female dogs and is not afraid to let them know it. She was named Joy because of the vibrant energy she brings, and she arrived at our rescue in December 2024, right around the holidays. We have no idea how she ended up with us, as our cameras didn't capture any cars dropping her off; she was simply seen running down the road and was waiting patiently when a volunteer arrived. Joy is approximately 3 years old, knows commands like "sit" and "stay," and walks beautifully on a leash.

Ideal Home

Joy would thrive in a home where she can have consistent potty breaks and the time needed to fully empty her bladder. This is crucial to prevent accidents and potential infections.

Ongoing Health

Joy has been experiencing urinary tract issues since arriving at the rescue. After extensive veterinary examinations, including consultations with a specialist and NC State Veterinary school, the cause remains undetermined. Tests, ultrasounds, and biopsies have not revealed a specific diagnosis. She has undergone treatment with doxycycline and prednisone. The current assumption is that she has an "overactive bladder," requiring frequent potty breaks and ample time for her to empty fully. Without this, she may have accidents. She knows the command "go potty" and will use a pee pad if needed. She rarely has accidents in her crate overnight. Adopters will receive a full history and all medical records pertaining to her condition. Aside from this, she is a very happy and healthy dog.

Training & Support

Joy knows "sit" and "stay" and walks well on a leash. She is an extremely smart dog and will quickly adapt to a new routine, especially regarding potty breaks, which will help prevent accidents in the home.
