Meet Aerie, who we affectionately call "Meef"! This gentle 6-year-old hound is looking for a very special home where she can continue to blossom. Meef has made incredible strides in foster care, but she's still working on building her confidence. She is quite fearful of men and currently won't eat if one is present, making a calm, female-only home ideal for her.
Ideal Home
Meef thrives in a quiet environment with predictable routines, gentle voices, and no pressure to be brave before she's ready. She prefers outdoor adventures during the peaceful overnight and early morning hours, as busy streets, loud vehicles, and daytime commotion can be overwhelming. She is not a fan of loud voices, frequent visitors, or noisy gatherings. Because Meef has a strong instinct to chase small animals, a cat-free home is recommended.
Ongoing Health
Meef came to us underweight and is still working on gaining healthy weight. She currently does best on soft foods like roasted turkey and chicken, though she will eat some softened high-quality kibble. A detailed journal will be provided to help her new family continue her progress.
Training & Support
When frightened, Meef doesn't become aggressive; instead, she withdraws and hides until she feels safe. She would benefit from another calm dog in the home to show her the ropes. She does exhibit some food-based resource guarding, so separating meal times is sufficient. Meef does not currently show interest in toys. Her comfort with being left alone is unknown, as she has never been left alone since entering foster care, so any alone time should be introduced gradually. Due to her tendency to follow her nose and startle in new situations, she should always be walked on secure equipment, such as a properly fitted harness and collar.
