Dagger is a 6.5-month-old, spayed female Retriever/Pit Bull mix who currently weighs 40 pounds and is expected to be a large dog when fully grown. She is being fostered in Houston, Texas. Her mom, Wanda, weighs approximately 55 pounds. Dagger was rescued from the woods with her littermates and mother during a Texas freeze and has since grown up in a loving foster home. She's named for the dagger-shaped marking on her neck and her former sharp puppy teeth, but now gives the sweetest love nibbles. Dagger is playful and energetic, enjoys testing boundaries, and is a talented escape artist. She also loves to snuggle and will curl up in her person's lap. She is curious, confident, and social, often the last to leave the fun. Dagger is friendly with strangers, enjoys playing with other dogs, and has been around children with success. She is potty trained and continues to grow into a confident, affectionate, and well-rounded dog.
Ideal Home
Dagger is looking for a family committed to reinforcing good manners, building her confidence, and helping her mature into an exceptional adult dog. Homes that have another friendly, well-mannered dog are preferred to help mentor and guide her. If you don't currently have a dog, a proactive plan for continued socialization is essential, such as structured training classes, regular playdates with trusted dogs, or supervised daycare. Because Dagger is still young, homes where someone isn't routinely away for more than four to six hours at a time are also preferred.
Ongoing Health
Dagger is a young, adolescent dog who is still learning about the world. She will continue to benefit from regular potty breaks, exercise, enrichment, training, and human interaction as she grows into adulthood.
Training & Support
Ongoing positive reinforcement, consistency, and continued leash practice will help Dagger thrive. Continued socialization with safe, positive experiences with new people, places, sounds, and friendly dogs is crucial for building lifelong confidence.
