About Chance
Chance is a 4-year-old neutered and vaccinated Staffie mix who was rescued from an overcrowded Houston shelter after being abandoned in an apartment. He’s the kind of dog who stays with you long after you’ve met him. There’s something incredibly gentle and soulful about him—if he were a person, you’d say he has an “old soul,” and you can see it right in his eyes. He’s the perfect mix of sweet, goofy, and loving, always wearing what looks like a big smile and ready to brighten your day. Around other dogs, Chance is a happy and playful companion. He currently lives with several large dogs and gets along wonderfully with them, enjoying games of tug and the occasional rambunctious play session. He tends to be a more polite with female dogs and loves relaxing with his canine friends after playtime. Because he’s a bigger, stronger boy with a playful style, he’d do best with dogs around his size and older kids who can enjoy his energy without getting knocked over. Chance has great house manners and is fully house trained. He’ll head to the back door to let you know when he needs to go out, sleeps through the night, and can stay home alone without trouble. While he’s not a fan of having a crate door closed, he happily naps in open crates or anywhere comfy around the house. He’s also a wonderful walking buddy who enjoys daily strolls, bursts of play, and fresh air, but is just as happy lounging in the sun or curling up beside you on the couch. He’s incredibly affectionate and recently discovered how wonderful it is to sleep in a cozy human bed, happily accepting morning cuddles. Chance also loves car rides and is always up for tagging along on an adventure. He’s a smart boy with a playful, slightly mischievous streak and learns routines quickly—he even has a funny way of “reminding” you when you’re running late by standing in the doorway and grunting at you. When something interesting catches his attention, especially squirrels, he can be a little stubborn, but mention the word “cookie” and he suddenly remembers his manners! Because of this strong prey drive, cats will be a no for Chance in his forever home. His love of treats makes him a great candidate for continued training. Overall, Chance would thrive in a loving home with a relaxed, predictable routine, either with a semi-active family with older kids and another dog his size or as the beloved only dog soaking up all the attention. Whether he’s playing, going for a walk, or snuggling on the couch, Chance’s sweet heart and gentle spirit make him the kind of companion who truly feels like family.
