Pau Pau is a handsome 9-10 year old Lab Mix who weighs around 60 pounds. He's a sweet boy with a heart of gold, though he does have a bit of a history to share. Pau Pau is a distemper survivor, which has left some scarring on his lungs, causing his breathing to sound a little rough. He doesn't require any medication for this, and while he won't be winning any races, he's perfectly happy with short, leisurely walks. Pau Pau also has a past life where he weighed a whopping 114 pounds! His dedicated foster has worked wonders to get him to a healthier weight, and it's crucial his new family continues this healthy lifestyle by not overfeeding him. He has a serious case of "bottomless stomach" and a keen nose for anything edible, so be prepared to be firm with healthy snacks and keep tempting treats out of reach. Despite his past, Pau Pau is eager to please and knows "sit" and "down," and is working on "place." He's a wonderful example that you can teach an old dog new tricks, especially when treats are involved!
Ideal Home
Pau Pau would thrive in a calm household where he can enjoy his golden years. He doesn't require a fenced yard and is happy with short walks. He was previously fostered with young children and is currently with teenagers, but due to potential reactivity with new people, teens are the youngest recommended.
Ongoing Health
Pau Pau is a distemper survivor. This may cause some long-term effects, like scarring of the lungs, which results in slightly rough breathing sounds. He does not require medication for this. It is important to manage his diet to maintain his current healthy weight of around 60 pounds, as he has a tendency to overeat.
Training & Support
Pau Pau is house-trained and crate-trained. However, he can be crate/barrier reactive with new people, particularly men. Introductions are best done outdoors with the help of tasty treats. Once he gets to know you, his tail won't stop wagging! He is eager to learn and responds well to positive reinforcement.
