Loki is a 6.5-month-old, male Retriever/Pit Bull mix who currently weighs 40 pounds and is expected to be a large dog when fully grown. He was rescued from the woods in a rural area outside of Houston with his mother and siblings and has grown up loved and cared for in a foster home. Loki is the fearless ringleader of his litter, always the first to explore and announce his presence with confidence and curiosity. He's an expert climber and loves to play keep-away with his toys. Loki is potty trained and is beginning to settle into an incredible companion, though a few accidents may happen as he adjusts to a new routine. He can be a bit hesitant with new experiences at first but quickly overcomes it. He absolutely loves food and is always at the front of the line for treats. After a day of play, Loki transforms into a cuddly lap buddy. He loves people and other dogs and seems to love life, greeting everyone with joy. He has some crate experience and has been around children, but his interactions with cats have not yet been tested. He is continuing to practice his leash skills and basic obedience and is eager to learn.
Ideal Home
Loki is looking for a family committed to reinforcing good manners, building his confidence, and helping him mature into an exceptional adult dog. He would benefit from a home with another friendly, well-mannered dog to help mentor and guide him. If you don't currently have another dog, please provide your plan for continued socialization, such as structured training classes, supervised daycare, or regular playdates. Because Loki is still a young dog, it's preferred that no one is routinely away from home for more than four to six hours at a time.
Ongoing Health
There are no specific ongoing health concerns mentioned in Loki's description.
Training & Support
Loki is potty trained but may have occasional accidents as he adjusts to a new home. He is continuing to practice his leash skills and basic obedience and is eager to learn. Ongoing positive reinforcement, consistency, and continued leash practice will help him thrive. Continued socialization with new people, places, sounds, and friendly dogs is crucial for building his lifelong confidence.
