Meet Gertrude, or Gertie as she's affectionately known! This approximately 1.5-year-old chocolate dapple Chiweenie is a truly unique and quirky soul. Gertie was found abandoned on a rural road, a sad situation that led her into the care of our volunteer trainers and eventually to the loving foster home of our Programs Director. She's slowly blossoming, discovering how wonderful life can be. Gertie's mornings are filled with enthusiastic greetings, her whole body wiggling with joy as if you've been gone for ages. She's become a sweet shadow, content to be near you, and has an adorable habit of resting her head gently on her foster siblings. She's mastered the doggie door, enjoys outdoor lounging, sleeps well in a kennel, and loves to snuggle under the blankets. Gertie also enthusiastically joins in on neighborhood watch duties, having discovered her Chihuahua bark!
Ideal Home
Gertie is looking for a patient and loving home that will continue to help her build confidence. She can be a little nervous around new things, but with time and understanding, she's becoming braver every day.
Ongoing Health
Gertie had an old pelvic fracture that has healed and doesn't impact her mobility. She tested lightly heartworm positive and is currently undergoing a gentle slow-kill treatment. We are happy to discuss her treatment plan in detail with potential adopters. Gertie has also experienced two brief seizures while in foster care; they were infrequent and quick to recover from, so medication hasn't been recommended yet. We will share all observed details with her adopter.
Training & Support
Gertie is still learning how to be a dog and is working on building her confidence around new experiences. Patience and positive reinforcement will be key to her continued growth.

- Adoption fee includes vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, microchip, and a heartworm test.
- Dogs testing positive for heartworms can be treated through our Fix-A-Heart Program, with the adopter purchasing a year's supply of heartworm prevention before treatment begins.
- All adoptions are subject to approval.
