Meet Rufio, a 66-pound Cane Corso mix who is working on reaching his ideal weight of 75 pounds with his foster mom. This sweet boy was rescued from the streets in January 2026 and is learning to trust humans every day. Rufio is shy and quiet, with a gentle temperament that blossoms once he feels safe. He initially takes time to warm up to new people, but within a week of his rescue, he began seeking affection and staying close to his foster family.
Rufio enjoys the company of his foster mom and her two children, ages 9 and 11, with the 9-year-old being his favorite. He is a bit intimidated by his foster dad but has shown no aggression, simply retreating. His energy level is low to medium, and he enjoys evening walks. He doesn't react to other people or dogs he encounters and is improving his leash manners. Rufio is not a vocal dog, only whimpering softly when excited or unsure, and offering a brief, endearing howl when his foster mom leaves.
He is friendly with other dogs and currently lives with two senior Chihuahuas who seem to have him well-trained! He would thrive with calm, well-mannered canine companions who can help him gain more confidence. Rufio is house-trained and signals when he needs to go outside. He is also crate-trained for when his family is away, never having accidents and tolerating the secured crate well. He sleeps soundly through the night, choosing to sleep in his foster parents' bed or a crate in their bedroom, as long as he is near them.
Ideal Home
Rufio would benefit from a patient family who can help him feel safe and loved. He gets along well with his foster family's children, but is still a bit nervous around his foster dad.
