Meet Theo (ACCT-A-252789)! This sweet and sensitive fellow is looking for a patient home where he can truly blossom. While he may start off a little shy and overwhelmed in new environments, Theo has a heart of gold and a serious love for snacks.

Theo is a professional treat connoisseur-he absolutely loves cheese, chicken, and hot dogs. He is very food-motivated and takes treats with the gentlest mouth, which has helped him gain confidence when meeting new people. Once he knows he can trust you, Theo is a total "leaner." He has been known to melt his head into a friendly hand and even press his head against your chest for comfort and cuddles. If you stop petting him before he's ready, he might even give you a gentle paw to ask for more!

On his walks, Theo is a dream on a leash, walking calmly and politely. He already knows how to "sit" for a tasty reward and is generally unfazed by other dogs passing by. In playgroups, he can be a little stiff at first, but he eventually loosens up and has even been seen offering play bows to his doggy friends. After some social time, his favorite activity is finding a nice, comfortable spot in the shade to flop over for a well-deserved rest.

Behavioral Notes

06/20/2026 playgroup: Steerable with spray bottle (3/5), barely with shake can (1/5). Stiff fence greetings, good greetings with Sable. Play bows and loosened up. Meandered around independently. Just before leaving the yard, found a comfortable spot in the shade next to the splash pad and flopped over onto his side for a rest.

06/17/2026 per staff behavioral eval: Kennel Presentation: Sitting on his bed when approached, ears back, soft eyes. Came to the front slowly for treats with head low, soft eyes, ears back, low tail wags.

Leash Skills: Sniffed the leash at first then was easily leashed and came right out. Walked on a loose leash, ears back, low loose tail.

Sociability: Stayed nearby while in the yard, sniffing around. Would come over when called with low tail wags, ears back, soft eyes. Allowed handling with low tail wags, loose body, ears back. Would paw at a leg when petting stopped. When touching his lower back and lower sides tail would stop wagging and skin would crawl. Came over when someone sat on the bench and very gently put his front paws on them with the same body language. He knows sit and took treats gently outside.

Play: No interest in the toys offered.

Dog Interaction: n/a

Return to Kennel: Walked back loose leash, low wagging tail, ears back. Hesitated to hop into kennel, when grabbing for treats he hopped right in and leash was removed easily.

06/14/2026 per staff: Tail tucked ears back at the fence. Gave mid tail wags, when Antari came to greet. Not steerable, 0/5 with can and 1/5 with water. Slow entry to the yard, mid to high tail wags, ears back when greeting Antari. Tried to mount later on.

06/13/2026 per staff: He did amazing during check in. He allowed head pets and to be cuddled on. He loves food and hugs. He sat very still and allowed someone to kneel next to him and gently press his head against their chest. Very minor restraint and a lot of love to get him through his vaccines and microchip.

06/13/2026 per staff: Standing in crate drinking water, used food lure to leash, likes chicken and hot dogs. Stopped out of crate and took a long pee, kennel appeared clean overnight. Walked slowly with tail down and still, mouth closed and head low to outside. Squinty eyes and slow movements when being pet, to turn and get a treat after each let. Takes treats so very gently.

Pooped, saw dogs walking by, unfazed. Sniffed a lot, got some head rubs and was able to have his teeth looked at. Tolerant, melted his head into hands.

Easy to return to crate and remove the leash

Ate chicken and hot dogs consistently outside

06/12/2026 per staff: Observed dog in dog intake/ tucked tail, easily follows a food lure. Tense body, small tail flutters with baby talk

06/12/2026 per staff: Very fearful. Low head carriage, small wags of tail with baby talk and when cheese is presented. Is very unsure and fearful of physical interactions, backs away from touch. VERY food motivated, loves cheese! Took cheese gently from my open hand.
