Dash is a handsome, approximately 3-year-old, 39-pound Border Collie-Aussie mix who is bursting with personality and energy! He's a smart, curious, and fun-loving boy who is always up for an adventure. Dash is a highly trainable dog who thrives with clear guidance and regular exercise. He loves having a job to do and feels most at ease when he knows the rules. Without structure, his natural herding instincts can take over, but with the right leadership and sufficient exercise, Dash is happy to follow your lead and relax. He enjoys bringing his humans a toy to toss for him and does not guard toys or food, making him easy to coexist with other dogs. He is very dog-friendly and doesn't want any drama with other dogs. Dash is quite the athlete and loves to catch and retrieve a ball. He is very good in his crate, not destructive, and is gentle with plush toys. He has met extended family members and is polite after an initial introduction, with treats helping him build trust and acceptance.
Ideal Home
Dash is looking for a home with people experienced with herding breeds. A fenced yard is a must for this energetic boy, and he would be a great match for someone familiar with herding breeds who’s ready to outsmart and outplay him. He cannot live in a home with cats or young children. Plenty of time is needed for Dash to trust new people; ideally someone local who can meet and walk him a few different times before adopting him.
Ongoing Health
No specific health conditions are mentioned in the listing.
Training & Support
Dash is fearful of things he doesn't understand, causing him to either shut down or panic. Exposing him to new situations will be an ongoing challenge. He usually just needs his humans to give him calm direction and time for his smart little brain to get in gear. While he is very dog-friendly, he usually gets nervous/anxious during play, so playtime with other dogs is not one of his strengths, though he does benefit from having a balanced dog around.
