About Feather

Are you looking for a loyal and adventurous companion? Do you admire grace and resilience? Then Feather might be the perfect girl for you!

Feather's journey to us was a tough one. She was found near a ranch in South Texas, severely underweight and with a poorly healed leg injury. Thankfully, Second Start Rescue stepped in, and she's been on the mend ever since! She's gained so much weight and her coat is now incredibly shiny and smooth. Despite the challenges with her leg, which veterinarians have determined won't fully recover due to nerve damage, Feather is a true testament to the power of adaptation. She walks, runs, and jumps with incredible spirit, all on three legs! She's incredibly affectionate, showering her favorite people with hugs and kisses.

Ideal Home

Feather would thrive in an active home, ideally with a fenced yard where she can safely run and play. She walks well on a leash for neighborhood strolls and absolutely loves off-leash time. Feather may do best as the only female dog in the household, as she has shown some reactivity towards other female dogs. She is, however, generally good-natured and becoming more comfortable with other dogs as she settles in. She has shown indications she likes kids and was well-behaved with an 8-year-old.

Ongoing Health

Feather is heartworm negative and up-to-date on vaccinations and flea/tick/heartworm preventatives. She has been treated for dandruff and her coat is now in excellent condition. She enjoys probiotic treats and her gut appears healthy.

Training & Support

Feather is already house-trained and does wonderfully in her crate, which she views as a safe and comfortable space. She is not easily bothered by loud noises like thunder or fireworks. While she has protective instincts, she's learning not to react to all strangers. Continued positive reinforcement and socialization will help her continue to build confidence.
