Meet Iris! This 3.5-year-old Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix is a true gem, waiting patiently for her forever family. Pulled from a high-kill shelter with her siblings, Iris is the last one hoping for a loving home. She's fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, and weighs in at a compact 47 pounds. Iris is a goofy, playful, and affectionate girl, but it takes time for her to warm up to new people and dogs. Once she trusts you, she's all in, offering loyalty, kisses, and enthusiastic belly rub sessions. She knows commands like "sit," "down," and "wait," and is a master of the happy dance when it's time for a walk!
Ideal Home
Iris would thrive in a quieter environment, away from the hustle and bustle of city streets, perhaps with access to trails or open spaces. An adult-only home is ideal, as her fear reactivity means she'll do best with adults who can understand and respect her need for space. She'd be a fantastic companion for someone working from home.
Ongoing Health
Iris is up-to-date on all her vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed. She does exhibit some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so separate feeding is recommended if there are other dogs in the home.
Training & Support
Iris is fully potty trained and crate trained, viewing her crate as a safe sanctuary. While she can be dog-selective, she has successfully built friendships with other dogs in her foster home through slow, intentional introductions. She can be leash-reactive when dogs get too close, so an owner experienced in managing distance and setting dogs up for success will be key. Her food and resource guarding are manageable with consistency and training.
