Meet Dexter – Your Future Cuddle Buddy and Adventure Partner!
Dexter is a 3-year-old mixed breed dog, approximately 65 lbs, with a beautiful coat and a personality as big as his heart. He's a true people dog who adores his humans and lives for cuddle sessions, though he might try to hog the couch space out of love! Dexter is an excellent companion on walks and absolutely lives for car rides, sitting in the seat like a human. He's content napping while you're at work and has full run of the house, happily relaxing in his bed until you're home. Dexter is a sniffer extraordinaire, turning walks into "sniffari" adventures! He might try to jump up when he's extra excited, but it's just his way of showing love. He's the definition of a gentle goofball and makes his foster parents laugh every day. Dexter listens well to commands, knows the basics, and is a quick learner, making him a trusting companion who will transition easily with a little attention and affection.
Ideal Home
Dexter would thrive in a home that can provide him with one good walk a day, as he has energy and love to spare! He'd do best with a family or individual who appreciates affectionate dogs and doesn't mind the occasional excited bark when visitors arrive. While he has done well with children and other dogs in the past, he needs a home that understands his sensitivities. Dexter would be best in a home without very small children, as he has become more territorial as an adult. He is skittish around puppies or "in your face" dogs, so dog parks will definitely not be safe for him.
Ongoing Health
Dexter is an escape artist with crates and has learned to do okay without one as long as the area is well puppy-proofed.
Training & Support
Dexter can be a little stressed when meeting new people or dogs, so he needs a good, proper introduction to warm up to new friends. He has learned to do OK without a crate if the area is well puppy-proofed. He hasn't been able to stay at a day care due to his aversion to crates, and he needs more training than his current family is able to provide.
