Meet Kona! This big, lovable boy is about 7 years old and weighs around 80 pounds. He's a handsome black lab mix with maybe a touch of Great Dane, and his main desire in life is to be by your side. Kona is a total mush, a true love bug who just wants to lay at your feet and receive pets. He has a wonderfully chill vibe and is happy to just hang out with you in the house or yard.
Kona was found with two friends on a county road and came to us for help, and we're so glad he did!
Ideal Home
Kona would love a home where he can be with his family. He is good with other dogs, but he is not a fan of cats. He also needs a home where he can feel safe when left alone, as he is still learning to overcome some abandonment issues. No food should be left accessible to him when he is unsupervised. While he's doing well inside, his escape attempt on a 5-foot fence the night he was rescued suggests he cannot be left alone in the yard until he's more settled. A taller fence might also be a solution once he acclimated.
Ongoing Health
Kona is heartworm positive, and the slow-kill treatment has been started. He also experienced previous trauma, likely from being hit by a car, and is scheduled for surgery this Thursday.
Training & Support
Kona has had no accidents in the house since being neutered. He is still working on feeling secure when left alone. While he's generally fine indoors, it's important to keep all food out of reach when he's unsupervised. His past escape from a 5-foot fence indicates he shouldn't be left in the yard unsupervised until he's fully acclimated to his new home; a taller fence may be necessary.
