Rufio

Meet Rufio! He's a charming Cane Corso mix who currently weighs in at 66 pounds, but his foster mom is diligently working to help him reach his ideal weight of 75 pounds. This sweet boy was rescued from the streets in early January 2026 and is learning each day that he can trust kind humans.

Rufio is a shy and quiet fellow with a gentle temperament. It takes him a little while to warm up to new people, but it's incredibly rewarding to see him blossom! Within a week of arriving at his foster home, he began following his foster mom around, seeking affection, and even hopping up on the couch and bed to be close to his family. He absolutely adores his foster mom and her two children (ages 9 and 11), with the 9-year-old being his absolute favorite! He can be a bit intimidated by his foster dad, but he hasn't shown any aggression; he simply retreats, and his foster family is taking things slow to help him build confidence.

Ideal Home

Rufio would thrive in a patient home that can help him feel safe and loved. He would love calm, well-mannered canine companions who can help him come out of his shell.

Ongoing Health

Rufio is currently underweight and being closely monitored by his foster mom as she works to help him reach a healthy weight.

Training & Support

Rufio is house-trained and signals when he needs to go outside. He is also crate-trained for when his family is away and tolerates a secured crate well with no accidents. He sleeps through the night, preferring to be near his humans. While he is not vocal, he occasionally whimpers when excited or unsure and lets out a funny howl when his foster mom leaves, which only lasts a couple of minutes. He is still working on his leash manners, which are improving!
