Meet Sammy, a distinguished gentleman of approximately 10 years and 10 pounds, whose golden coat and loving heart shine brighter than any physical limitation. This sweet Dachshund mix was found as a stray in Miami, and despite his visual impairment due to cataracts, Sammy navigates the world with incredible courage and an overwhelming desire for connection. He's recently undergone eye surgery to repair a lens, and while he sometimes bumps into things, he manages beautifully with a little gentle guidance. Sammy's world has brightened, and he's eager to share his affection with a patient and understanding family.
Ideal Home
Sammy thrives in a calm environment where he can relax on the sofa undisturbed. He needs a home without shared walls, as he can bark when left alone. While he's great with adults and older children, he can be easily startled, so he would do best in a home without young children. He's good with slow-moving dogs that will respect his space and would also be content as an only pet. A fenced yard is not a requirement, but he does need frequent potty breaks.
Ongoing Health
Sammy has cataracts causing visual impairment and recently had eye surgery. He sometimes bumps into things and requires gentle guidance to his food and water bowls. Wearing a soft cone helps him navigate his surroundings and provides a comfortable barrier. He is currently on a low-fat diet, which he must continue, and also takes a joint supplement, omega for his skin, and probiotics.
Training & Support
Sammy is potty-trained with a consistent routine and is great on a leash. He is not a fan of crates and does bark when left alone. He would benefit from an adopter who understands his need for personal space and allows him to approach for affection on his own terms. Gentle guidance to his food and water bowls is helpful.
