MEET "KOA" MARYLAND
Koa is an extra-large Anatolian Shepherd x Spanish Mastiff mix with a heart full of resilience and a spirit ready to heal. Born in January 2023, Koa is one of eleven dogs rescued from a truly heartbreaking case of abuse and neglect. He arrived at our rescue on the brink of death, but his incredible will to live saw him through, and now he's a strong, curious, and handsome boy eager to discover the world. While his body has mended, some emotional scars remain, and Koa is still learning to trust his surroundings. He has good days and harder days, but he never gives up, and his curiosity fuels his progress. Positive reinforcement and praise go a long way with this gentle giant. A simple "no" is all the correction he needs, and though he wouldn't hurt a fly, his bark is impressively loud, which is something to consider.
Ideal Home
Koa would thrive in a home where he can continue to build trust and feel secure. He needs a patient human who will get down on the floor with him for brushing, belly rubs, and reassurance when he's feeling scared. He's not phased by thunder, vacuums, or leaf blowers, but he is learning to adjust to mechanical noises and distant voices. Koa is independent and prefers to sleep alone at night, but he craves your attention first thing in the morning. He can be left alone in the house and does not need to be crated; he'll find a cozy spot to relax. He is comfortable going up and down stairs and through dog doors. He knows some basic commands, but he's on his own learning schedule. NO APARTMENT HOMES and NO LIVESTOCK. A MUST HAVE SECURE FENCING is required.
