Michelle is a delightful 3-year-old Staffordshire Terrier mix, weighing around 48 pounds, who is currently charming her foster family in Houston, Texas. Rescued from a high-kill shelter, Michelle is embracing her second chance at life with an abundance of friendliness, affection, and sociability. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs, enjoying playful romps and cozy naps with her foster siblings. While she can sometimes be a bit too enthusiastic during playtime due to her size, she's quick to read her playmates' cues and adjust her behavior.
Michelle has a good balance of energy, enjoying outdoor play and then settling down for indoor relaxation and snoozing. She has a sweet and loving nature with children ages 8 and up.
Ideal Home
Michelle would thrive in a home with another friendly dog and a family that can provide her with love, structure, and plenty of playtime. She has met children ages 8 and up and was sweet and loving, but due to her tendency to jump when excited, a home with children 12+ or dog-savvy younger teens would be ideal. A secure yard or consistent leash walks are a must, as she can be an escape artist who scales fences. She would also do well in an apartment or urban setting as long as she receives consistent exercise and enrichment.
Ongoing Health
No specific health conditions are mentioned.
Training & Support
Michelle is fully housebroken and crate trained, even choosing to rest in her crate during the day. She is very food motivated and learns quickly. However, she can be a bit sneaky with food, so she is fed separately, and guidance is recommended during snack times. She responds well to redirection. While she walks fairly well on leash, she tends to pull. Continued leash training and structure will help her improve. She loves to chew, especially on outdoor items, so supervision and crate time when unsupervised are important.
