About Jolene

Jolene is a lean, energetic brown Lab/Retriever mix with a playful spirit! She absolutely loves to run in open fields and enjoys games of chase with other dogs. While she can get the zoomies and go quite fast, Jolene is also a cuddle bug who enjoys being close to her people and snuggling on the couch. She thrives on affection and is a very sweet and chill companion once she feels comfortable. Jolene's previous owner passed away, and she has been in foster care since. She is now looking for a loving home where she can get the attention and space she deserves.

Ideal Home

Jolene would do best in a home where she has plenty of space to run. She does not like cats.

Ongoing Health

Jolene may have some seasonal allergies that cause her eyes to become red during the spring and summer if she spends a lot of time outdoors. She has been eating a lamb-based diet, and it's thought that chicken might be a sensitivity that contributes to her shedding. She has also tried Purina Pro Plan for sensitive skin and stomach, with salmon-based food in the spring.

Training & Support

Jolene completed basic training in 2020 and knows sit, wait, and lay down. She is house-trained and understands "crate" and "bed" commands. She uses "okay" as a release word. Jolene has resource guarding issues around food and may growl or nip if someone approaches while she is eating. She can be anxious and reactive when her anxiety surfaces, becoming defensive and protective of her space. She also needs work on recall when off-leash in large, open spaces, and can be a bit selective with her hearing in these situations. A "Gentle Leader" collar and leash are recommended for walks to help with pulling.
