Steve was discovered outside the local shelter when the employees arrived for work. He was found in the bottom of a tall laundry basket, surrounded by literal trash, and was nothing but skin and bones. Security footage revealed that at 4:23 a.m., a pick-up truck pulled up, and three men got out and left Steve and the laundry basket at the front door. Given his condition, the initial thought was that humane euthanasia would be the kindest option to end his suffering. But when Steve heard the commotion and realized they were talking about him, and that these people cared, he raised his head as if to say, "I'm still here." Steve has been seen by a vet and is extremely malnourished and neglected. He is about 4-6 pounds under weight, and when he was found, his toenails were so long they were curled under his feet and growing into his pads. He has a long road ahead of him to recovery, but every day he is getting stronger. Keep checking back for updates.
