Meet Duke, the goofy hound with the biggest personality!
Equal parts oversized cuddle bug and playful troublemaker, Duke knows how to keep life entertaining. At 1 year 9 months old and 64 pounds, this lovable Black and Tan Coonhound has a personality that is impossible not to love. Duke is a total goofball who brings fun and laughter wherever he goes. When he gets excited, his whole body wiggles as he leaps and bounds around with pure joy. Toss him a toy and he proudly prances around showing it off. His favorite game is grabbing a toy and taking off in a playful sprint, hoping someone will chase after him. He also loves splashing around in a kiddie pool and making the biggest mess possible. After all the fun, though, Duke is happiest curled up close to his people, convinced he is actually a lap dog despite his size.
Duke's story has had many changes and he's ready for a committed family. He was adopted as a puppy from another shelter, later returned, adopted again, and eventually surrendered to us when his family moved and he was too much dog for the new housemates. Through every transition and heartbreak, Duke has remained loving, hopeful, and ready to give his whole heart to a family of his own.
Ideal Home
Duke is looking for a home that understands hounds and appreciates their loud voices, goofy personalities, and loving hearts. He needs commitment, patience, plenty of playtime, and a family who will truly make him part of their world. He absolutely loves playing with other dogs and especially enjoys running and wrestling with female companions. He can also do well with calmer, non confrontational males.

Training & Support
True to his hound roots, Duke comes with the classic booming hound bark and a sassy and stubborn side. He likes to remind you that he has opinions too, and sometimes he is very committed to them. Duke walks fairly well on a leash, although every now and then his hound nose takes over and he becomes determined to follow an interesting scent.
