Joey and Gypsy are a bonded pair looking for a patient and experienced adopter to give them a loving home.
Joey is a 7-year-old, 10lb Maltese/Yorkie mix who is very shy with people due to his past. He is making progress with his foster mom, following her around and enjoying cuddles, but he is still cautious and doesn't like to be picked up. He loves to play with other dogs and has learned to jump on furniture and sleep with his foster mom. He is potty trained but may use a pee pad if left alone for too long. Joey needs a secure, small fenced yard as he doesn't like walks or leashes. He is food motivated, which will be helpful for training, but needs to watch his weight. Joey requires grooming every 8 weeks and has had a dental cleaning with extractions. He is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Gypsy is a delightful 7-year-old, 13lb Cairn terrier mix who is smart and loves to lounge, eat, and play with her best friend, Joey, and other small dogs. She enjoys being petted and tummy rubs but is not a lap dog. Gypsy is quiet and prefers familiar surroundings. She walks okay on a leash but is a bit nervous around birds and cars. She needs a secure fenced yard to do her business. Gypsy is very food motivated and needs to maintain a healthy weight. She can use a doggie door or be let out every 4 hours. She sleeps on her foster mom's bed and may need assistance getting onto higher beds. Gypsy rides well in the car and has a sweet temperament, never having snapped or bitten. She has no experience with cats. Gypsy enjoys being brushed and needs grooming every 3 months. She is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Ideal Home
Joey and Gypsy need an adult-only home with someone who has previous experience with shy and fearful dogs. They thrive in a quiet environment and need someone who is home much of the time. A secure, fenced yard is essential for both of them, as they do not enjoy walks on a leash. They must be adopted together.
Ongoing Health
Joey had a dental cleaning in January with 27 teeth extracted, leaving him with 13 remaining teeth. He needs to watch his weight. Gypsy also needs to maintain a healthy weight to avoid stress on her legs and joints. Both are up-to-date on vaccinations.
Training & Support
Joey and Gypsy are food motivated, which will be a great asset for training. Joey is still learning to trust people and needs patience. Gypsy is not familiar with commands and will only come when called if food is involved or she desires.
