Petty, also known as "Max," is a lovable young senior dog with a heart full of love to give. He's adapted remarkably well to life as a tripod since he was two years old and is ready to share his life with a retired or work-at-home human or family. Max is a social butterfly who thrives on companionship, preferring to be with his people or canine friends rather than by himself. He enjoys gentle play with other dogs and loves to explore the outdoors on leash, though he's not a fan of very cold weather and may need some coaxing to go out in sleet or cold rain. However, temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit will have him eager to embrace any weather! Max doesn't chew on anything but his food, and his strong food motivation makes him eager to learn. He's very human-oriented and follows cues from his foster siblings to learn new things. While he walks well, he can pull occasionally when excited by squirrels or rabbits. He walks best with a Gentle Leader, and his owner should have good balance due to his unique gait. Max would be an excellent companion for leisurely walks and would also enjoy relaxing by your side on the couch or even snuggling in bed at night. He has been known to counter-surf if given the opportunity. Max experienced some separation anxiety after losing his previous owner and is not a fan of crates. However, he is not destructive and can be confined to a room with music and a canine friend when left alone. He has no accidents when going outside and sleeps soundly through the night. Max is a vocal dog, barking when people or animals approach his home or yard. Although he can sometimes give off an intimidating aura to less secure dogs, he is truly a loving goofball and has been a hit with dogs, kids, and toddlers at adoption events.
Ideal Home
Max would thrive in a stable home with an active adult or family who can provide him with plenty of attention, affection, and gentle exercise. A medium-sized fenced yard would be a wonderful bonus for this energetic senior.
Ongoing Health
Max is very healthy and enjoys being groomed.
Training & Support
Max is a quick learner, especially with food as motivation. He walks well on a leash but may pull when squirrels or rabbits are present. He's also working on not counter-surfing. While he's not a fan of being crated, he tolerates being confined to a room with music and a companion when left alone.
