Carissa

Carissa is a 5-year-old, 13lb Chiweenie who is spayed. She's a gentle sweetheart who was rescued from a hoarding situation with about 40 other dogs. Due to her past, she can be a bit shy and needs patient people to help her adjust to everyday life. She's curious and a bit of a shadow, following her foster mom around, but she's still hesitant to be approached for pets. We're seeing great progress, though, with more tail wags appearing each day! Carissa has a calm and chill demeanor and is very food-motivated, making her a great candidate for learning new commands. She's not overly interested in toys but enjoys lick mats for stimulation.

Ideal Home

Carissa would do well in a home in a calmer part of the city or even the suburbs. She is spooked by loud noises and bustling areas, so a quieter environment would help her adjust. She might do well with children aged 12 and up, provided they are gentle and understanding.

Ongoing Health

Carissa has arthritis in her ankle, which causes her to limp. She will need to be on joint supplements for life to manage this condition. She is up to date on all her vaccinations (DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies), has been heartworm tested, microchipped, and treated with dewormer.

Training & Support

Carissa is still learning commands and is working on her confidence with new people. Her food motivation will be a great asset in training. She is generally good with other dogs but can be selective. She is potty trained with few or no accidents.
