Chido

Chido is a charming American Bulldog mix, almost 4 years old and weighing a healthy 63 lbs. He came to us from the streets outside of Houston, and despite his difficult past, Chido continues to have faith in people and other animals. His love for cats is a testament to his gentle nature, and he makes friends easily with both animals and humans alike. Chido enjoys short walks, playing with toys, and napping – he’s quite the sleepyhead! He is gentle with children and most dogs. Chido is dog selective, but generally gets along well as long as other dogs don't try to dominate him or jump on him.

Ideal Home

Chido would thrive in a home with a patient companion, ideally someone who works from home or is retired, as he suffers from separation anxiety. He needs a relaxed household where he can be a cherished indoor companion. Chido is not an outside dog. He can be frightened by loud noises like thunder, lightning, and fireworks, and will need comfort and reassurance during these times.

Ongoing Health

Chido is heartworm positive and is currently on a slow-kill medication, a low-cost monthly pill. He should be tested annually to monitor his heartworms. He also suffers from occasional hip arthritis, which can make it difficult for him to get around initially. This has only occurred twice since he has been in foster care and is managed with hip massages and rest. X-rays showed inflammation but no broken bones. Aside from these conditions, Chido is a healthy and loving companion.

Training & Support

Chido walks well on a leash, knows basic commands, and is potty trained. He can be sensitive to loud noises and may experience separation anxiety, so a patient and understanding owner is key.
