About Howl
Meet Howl!
Howl is a handsome 6-month-old mixed breed puppy who came to us from a difficult situation. He is still learning that people can be kind, homes can be safe, and love doesn't have to come with fear. Right now, Howl is not quite ready for "peopling." Humans are still scary to him, and he will need an adopter with patience, understanding, and realistic expectations. He exhibits extreme submissive urination when frightened and prefers to observe the world from a safe distance rather than jump into new situations. But beneath that fear is a sweet puppy who desperately wants to feel safe. What Howl lacks in confidence around people, he makes up for in his love for other dogs. He absolutely thrives around canine friends and will happily cuddle up to any dog willing to share a bed or nap spot. He takes comfort in following their lead and learning from them. Howl is not food motivated, which makes training a little more creative, although he's recently decided that mac and cheese might just be worth taking a chance for! While he isn't food aggressive, he does prefer to enjoy his meals without sharing. He gives appropriate warnings and boundaries around food but will happily take treats alongside other dogs. This clever boy also has a bit of a mischievous side. He's something of a Houdini and has been known to scale baby gates when the mood strikes him. He also occasionally chooses a potty pad despite having regular access to the outdoors, so his future family should be prepared to continue working on house training. Howl isn't looking for perfection. He's looking for someone willing to meet him where he is and help him discover that the world isn't such a scary place after all. The journey with Howl won't be instant, but for the right person, it will be incredibly rewarding. Watching a dog learn to trust is one of the most beautiful transformations there is. Could you be the person who helps Howl find his voice?
Ideal Home
Howl's ideal home will be patient and understanding, committed to helping a fearful dog build confidence, and have at least one friendly, confident dog companion. He needs a family willing to let him move at his own pace and celebrate small victories, understanding that trust takes time.
Ongoing Health
No specific ongoing health conditions were mentioned in the listing.
Training & Support
Howl needs continued house training and guidance as he can be a bit of a Houdini and may choose potty pads over outdoor access. He is not food motivated, so training requires creative approaches, though he has shown interest in mac and cheese. He prefers to eat his meals alone but is happy to take treats alongside other dogs.
