About Diesel

Meet Diesel, a fun-loving Black Lab, who is hoping to celebrate his second birthday in August with a family of his own! Diesel is everything people love about Labrador Retrievers—happy, energetic, goofy, incredibly smart, and always eager to please. He's happiest when he's playing fetch, carrying around his favorite toys, or spending time with his people. Like many young Labs, he's still polishing his household manners, but with consistency is doing great! Diesel loves durable chew toys like Nylabones and enjoys carrying stuffed toys around the house. His foster family has loved having him as part of their pack, and they can't wait for him to find the forever home he deserves.

Ideal Home

Diesel thrives with other dogs and gets along wonderfully with the dogs in his foster home, who range in age and size. His best friend is the resident Lab, and he'd do best in a home with another confident, playful large-breed dog to help him burn energy and continue building his confidence. Because of his play style, he is not a good match for small dogs. He has also shown inconsistent reactions to cats, so a cat-free home is recommended. As a young Lab, Diesel needs an active family committed to providing daily exercise, enrichment, and continued training. A securely fenced yard is a must so he has plenty of room to run and play. We recommend a home with children over 10 years old who have previous experience living with a large-breed dog.

Ongoing Health

Diesel is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and will be neutered.

Training & Support

Diesel is still learning not to jump up on people or be mouthy when he's excited. He is fully potty trained, but he should be crated when left unsupervised, as he can become restless when left alone and may counter surf if he's bored. His foster family has had great success using stuffed Kongs to help him settle quietly in his crate, and with continued training, he may eventually earn more freedom. He walks nicely on a harness, and his foster family highly recommends using a Freedom No-Pull Harness with a double-clip leash made by Two Hounds. With the continued application of basic training and a little patience, he is sure to be the perfect companion.
