Everest is a beautiful, shy, young Husky who is slowly learning that the humans here at the shelter are kind and trustworthy. She has a curious nature and enjoys exploring her surroundings. Everest has relaxed enough to play with toys and becomes visibly more comfortable when she can investigate things at her own pace. She will truly blossom in a patient, quiet home where she can continue to gain confidence.
Ideal Home
Everest would be happiest in an adult-only home, as she is nervous and sensitive to noises and touch, and can be anxious. An experienced owner who understands positive reinforcement and can help shy dogs feel safe would be an ideal fit. Homes with little chaos and a safe space for her to retreat when overwhelmed are best.
Ongoing Health
Everest's veterinary care is considered average. She has a thick double coat that will require regular, consistent grooming (2-3 times a week, sometimes daily depending on the season) to prevent matting and keep her comfortable. This grooming should also be introduced at her pace. She may benefit from a combination of in-home grooming and fear-free professional grooming.
Training & Support
Everest is young and will thrive with positive reinforcement and new learning experiences. This will help her build confidence and bond with her guardian. She will also benefit from slow introductions to handling, such as leash and harness use, noises, and physical touch. New experiences should be introduced slowly, at her pace, and paired with high-value treats. Learning to read her body language is key to knowing when to give her space. She is an active, young dog and will do best with regular exercise and playtime in safe areas, combined with mental enrichment like scent games and food puzzles.
