Budsy is a handsome 7-year-old, 12 lb Yorkie/ShihTzu mix with expressive eyes and a scruffy face that makes him utterly lovable. He’s an affectionate, loyal companion with a sweet nature and a calm, funny presence. Budsy’s name fits him perfectly, as he truly wants to be everyone's little buddy. He came to us from a shelter in Quebec, and while his past is a bit of a mystery, he has proven to be resilient, affectionate, and eager to connect. He’ll thrive with a patient adopter who can continue building his confidence through routine, positive reinforcement, and consistency.
Ideal Home
Budsy would do well in a variety of home environments and enjoys spending time outside, happily lounging while you garden. He has low to medium energy and enjoys walks, but also loves lounging on the couch. He is food and treat motivated, making training rewarding. Budsy has adapted well to crate training and will only bark out of excitement or to get attention. While he has done well with another dog in his foster home and would likely do well with another respectful dog after proper introductions, he would also be fine as the only dog. His response to cats is unknown. Budsy would likely do well with older children over 8 who will honor his boundaries, but preference will be given to an adult-only home that appreciates his calm and quiet nature, as he is still learning appropriate play and isn't fond of roughhousing.
Ongoing Health
Budsy has received veterinary care, including vaccinations, neutering, and dental work. He handles veterinary visits well and is settling into a healthy routine. There are currently no major health concerns. He will require professional grooming every few months and regular brushing to keep his medium-length coat tidy.
Training & Support
Budsy is highly treat motivated, and while he can sometimes take treats swiftly, treats are best served with an open palm initially to help him understand they are abundant and what the expectations are. He will do well in positive reinforcement training classes, where treats will be a great initial motivator. Post-adoption training is required and Budsy will benefit from the social and learning aspects.
