Meet Lainey, a lovely 7 lb, approximately 2-year-old Chihuahua mix with a short coat. Lainey comes from a difficult past, having been rescued from a hoarding situation. She spent her early life in a small, isolated environment, and the outside world was entirely new and often overwhelming for her.
When she first arrived in foster care, Lainey was understandably shy, preferring the safety of her crate. However, with patience and gentle guidance from her foster mom, she began to blossom. She learned to trust, enjoyed cuddles, and discovered the joy of playing with toys and her foster siblings. Lainey is now in a local foster home in Northern Virginia, continuing her journey of adjustment. While she's making great progress, she can still be cautious around strangers and unfamiliar situations. She is house-trained and crate-trained and has started enjoying short walks in quiet areas.
Ideal Home
Lainey would thrive in a calm, quiet home environment with a low-traffic neighborhood; city living or busy communities would likely be too overwhelming for her. A securely fenced yard is strongly preferred, allowing her to explore and gain confidence at her own pace. A calm, confident resident dog would be a wonderful companion for Lainey, offering her a role model to learn from.

Lainey is up-to-date on her shots, spayed, and microchipped.
Training & Support
Lainey is still learning that everyday noises and new experiences aren't something to fear. She needs an adopter who understands that building trust takes time and consistency. While she may not greet every visitor enthusiastically, with patience and love, she will grow in confidence and learn to trust.
