About Benji Bubba-4647-Prattville, AL
Hi there! My name is Benji Bubba, and I'm an 8-year-old, 21-pound purebred Boston Terrier with a heart full of love and a spirit for adventure! I'm a very sweet boy who adores being around people and has a special fondness for the four Boston Terrier ladies in my foster home. I love to follow the pack, and we all enjoy our zoomies in the backyard! If you open any door to the outside, I'm liable to take off on a grand exploration, but don't worry, I usually come back when you call. Foster dad says I'm getting better about this, and with a little patience, I'm sure to perfect my recall!
During the day, you can find me soaking up the sun, and when the weather gets a bit too warm or chilly, I love to snuggle up on the couch. Though I'm 8 years old, I have the energy and playfulness of a puppy! I'm a dream on leash, never tugging or pulling. Car rides are another joy of mine, but I do have a quirky habit of trying to "help" steer from your lap, so a harness and a secure spot in the back seat would be best!
My foster parents have been diligently working on my potty training, and I'm proud to say I'm doing very well! We have a convenient pet door for when they're home, and they make sure we all get our potty breaks first thing in the morning, upon their return, and before bed. I rarely have accidents now, which is a big accomplishment!
When it's time for bed, I love to burrow under the covers and sleep right beside you, though sometimes the couch is a cozy alternative. I'm also learning basic commands like "sit," "come," and "get down." I must admit, the crate is not my friend – I’ll protest with all my might if I’m put in one, and expect some howling and whining if I'm confined.
Mealtime is exciting! I tend to dive into my food and might try to sneak bites from other bowls. I don't snap, but I do eat quickly, so my foster dad uses a slow feeder mat to help me pace myself. He's also working on getting me to sit before I eat, but my excitement often gets the better of me!
I'm generally good with other pets, but I can get a little territorial and my fur might stand up when Hank, the neighborhood Labrador, strolls by. I might even let out a growl, and I tend to bark at bigger dogs.
Ideal Home
Benji Bubba thrives in a home where he's not left alone for extended periods. A family who works from home or is retired would be ideal, as he loves having his people around. Because he enjoys "helping" steer and can be excited, a home with older children might be best. A securely fenced yard is essential to keep this curious explorer safe from his wanderlust!
Ongoing Health
Benji Bubba tested positive for heartworm disease and is currently undergoing the slow-kill treatment method. This involves a course of antibiotics, which he has completed, and a monthly application of Advantage Multi. This medication also protects against fleas and ticks and serves as a heartworm preventative. The rescue will provide the necessary medication until he tests negative, which is typically within a year. He started this treatment in December 2025.
Training & Support
Benji Bubba is learning basic commands like "sit," "come," and "get down." He has some resource guarding tendencies at mealtime and benefits from a slow feeder. He absolutely dislikes crates and will vocalize his displeasure if confined. Patience and positive reinforcement will be key to his continued success.
