Dixie is a 8-month-old husky mix weighing approximately 25 lbs with the most striking blue eyes! She was rescued on a rainy day with her mom, darting traffic on the highway. A kind person coaxed them to safety with food and patience, and now Dixie is ready to find her forever family. We don't expect Dixie to get much bigger, as her spaniel-mix mom was only 30 lbs full-grown. Dixie is kennel trained and eager to learn, quickly mastering new commands with her sharp mind. She absolutely loves other dogs and gets along wonderfully with both big and small pups. Dixie is currently in a temporary sanctuary on the Texas/Mexico border and is learning to trust humans. She needs a patient, understanding, and gentle home. Another dog in the home would be a huge asset in helping Dixie gain confidence, but if that's not possible, regular playdates or doggy daycare would be a great substitute. Dixie is discovering the joy of toys and is having a blast playing with them. She's a gorgeous girl who deserves all the best!
Ideal Home
A home with another dog would be ideal for Dixie to help her build confidence. Patience, understanding, and gentleness are key qualities for her future family.
Ongoing Health
Dixie is spayed, heartworm negative, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, and current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. She will receive a clean bill of health from a veterinarian prior to transport.
Training & Support
Dixie is kennel trained and learning commands. She is very smart and eager to learn with some one-on-one attention. She is still learning to trust humans and will benefit from a patient and gentle approach.

Transporation
Dixie is currently located in Texas but will be transported to the Central US and East Coast. Transport is included in the adoption fee and occurs every 2-3 weeks to the following locations: Albany and Latham, NY; Wells and Brattleboro, VT; Willington, New Haven, and Dayville, CT; Port Chester, NY; Dayton and Akron, OH; Grove City and Bloomsburg, PA; Ridgefield and Mt Laurel, NJ; White Marsh/Elkton, MD; and Falls Church, VA.
