Meet Santana!
Santana is a spirited five-year-old American Pitbull Terrier with a beautiful blue fawn coat and bright, engaging eyes. He's a loving boy who lights up around people, greeting everyone with happy foot taps and lots of kisses! Weighing about 65 pounds, he has a medium energy level, perfect for both playtime and cozy cuddles. His favorite game involves a small rubber tire that he gleefully chases and leaps for. Santana knows basic commands like "sit" and "stay," comes when called, and enjoys car rides, always wanting to be by your side. He's crate-trained and feels most comfortable in his crate when left alone, as he can be destructive and curious with food if given too much unsupervised freedom.
Ideal Home
Santana would thrive in a home where he is the only dog, as he has had altercations with other dogs, especially males, and requires careful separation. While he can be selective with dogs, he is very good with people and is affectionate, social, and gentle with both adults and children. With proper introductions, he has shown he can do better with some female dogs. A family who understands large, strong companions and can provide structure, supervision, and consistency would be ideal. Due to his natural prey drive, a home without small animals is recommended. A fenced yard will help him enjoy safe, happy playtime.
Ongoing Health
Santana is vaccinated and microchipped. He handles routine vet visits well. He currently needs to have a broken upper canine tooth extracted, and a small mole above his eye should be evaluated by a veterinarian.
Training & Support
Santana communicates his discomfort with clear body language and benefits from positive reinforcement training to build calm, confident interactions. He can become destructive and curious with food if given too much freedom, especially if snacks are within reach, so consistent crate use when unsupervised is important. His adoption will require that he be neutered by his new family, and guidance and resources can be provided to support this process.
