About Mason
Mason is the perfect combination of old-soul laid back and toddler mischief!
In early November, Mason was saved from a dog attack by kind Samaritans who kept him safe until our rescue could pick him up. His wounds have since healed beautifully, and his skin and hair are healthy. After a month of enjoying a hearty appetite, he's back to his fighting weight of about 40 pounds.
Based on his appearance, we believe Mason is a "Border Aussie" – a delightful mix of Border Collie and Australian Shepherd. At approximately 8 years young, Mason still has many years of life and love to share.
Mason's greatest joy is being with his people. Despite an unknown period spent on the streets, he shows absolutely no aggression towards people or other dogs. We're unsure how he'd feel about cats in the home. Given his enthusiastic affection, a home without very young children would be the best fit.
Mason quickly mastered the doggie door and revels in the freedom to come and go as he pleases. He is fully crate-trained, though he's not a fan of his crate as it separates him from his beloved humans. Because of his strong desire to be near his family, Mason is quite the escape artist, making a secure yard and a Mason-proof crate absolutely essential.
It's likely Mason spent years on the streets, as he's missing several teeth, and the rest are worn down or broken. Despite this, he is a MASTER chewer, tackling everything in sight! He destroys most chew toys and has a penchant for blankets, clothes, dog beds, and even wire crates. For his own safety, he MUST be securely crated at night or anytime he cannot be directly supervised.
Mason's loving and adaptable nature means he would thrive in many types of homes. His ideal environment would involve minimal daytime crating and abundant human companionship. With plenty of love, patience, and training, Mason promises to return the favor with years of unwavering love and loyalty.
Ideal Home
A home without very young children would be best, as Mason can be a bit "pushy" with his affection. A secure yard and a Mason-proof crate are non-negotiables due to his escape artistry. An environment with as little daytime crating as possible and lots of human companionship would allow him to truly thrive.
Ongoing Health
Mason is healthy, with his past wounds fully healed and his skin and coat in great condition. He is missing several teeth, and the remaining ones are worn down or broken, which contributes to his master-chewing behavior. He needs to be securely crated when unsupervised for his own safety.
Training & Support
Mason is fully crate-trained but prefers not to be separated from his people. He is a master chewer and requires secure containment when unsupervised to prevent him from ingesting unsafe items. Patience and training will help him settle into his new home.
