Meet George and Piper!

George is a devoted three-year-old Great Pyrenees/Saint Bernard mix, and Piper is a joyful two-year-old Pharaoh Hound/American Pitbull Terrier mix. George is a beautiful blend of loyalty, intelligence, and quiet strength, standing at 112 pounds with a striking tricolor coat. After a difficult start in life, George has spent the last 15 months with a foster family, rediscovering safety and love. He's a dog who appreciates quiet companionship, content to be near his people without needing constant attention. His affection runs deep and is incredibly meaningful when shared.

Piper, weighing in at 31 pounds, is a bundle of energy with a sleek brown coat, a white chest, and eyes full of curiosity. Once neglected, she now radiates joy, trust, and an irrepressible spirit. She adores people, loves to play, and is a champion cuddler! Her favorite games involve keep-away, and she greets familiar faces with enthusiastic wiggles, hugs, and tail wags. Piper is house-trained, crate-trained, and knows basic commands like sit, down, and stay. While she enjoys activity, she’s also happy to nap beside her favorite person or canine friend.

George is house-trained, leash-savvy, and knows commands such as sit, down, shake, easy, and stay. He thrives on routine and responds well to gentle guidance. He enjoys human company but also values his personal space. George forms bonds slowly, but once he trusts you, it's for life.

Piper is the outgoing one, friendly to strangers and wonderful with children. She's also great with other dogs and clearly cherishes her bond with George, encouraging his playfulness, rest, and confidence. While she may need slow introductions to cats or smaller animals, her gentle nature suggests she'll adapt with patience. Like many pups, Piper is sensitive to loud noises and will appreciate a safe, cozy spot during thunderstorms or fireworks.

Ideal Home

George needs a calm, structured environment with a guardian who understands that building trust takes time. He is not suited for apartments or small condos; he requires space to roam, think, and feel secure.

Ongoing Health

George had one fear-based bite incident when a visitor moved too quickly and patted his head, a sensitive area due to past trauma. In a separate instance, he snapped (without making contact) when a new person leaned in face-to-face in an unfamiliar setting, a clear indication that he needs space and time to feel safe before close physical contact. A professional trainer evaluated George, confirming he is not aggressive but is a sensitive, thoughtful dog reacting appropriately given his breed and history. His trainers are offering video or phone consultations to support his new family.

Transporation

George and Piper are currently in Hickory, NC. They are open to a long-distance adoption, and their current family will keep them until a suitable new home is found.
