Poppie

Poppie is an adorable 7-8 year old, 16.8-lb possible chihuahua/pug mix with a cute curly-Q pigtail. She has made great progress in her weight loss journey and loves soaking up the sun and chasing lizards in the yard. Poppie's owner passed away, and she is now seeking a loving forever home. She is currently living with other dogs of various sizes and is cat-friendly 90% of the time, though she can sometimes bark at the cat.

Ideal Home

Poppie would thrive in a home where she can continue her active lifestyle, including plenty of yard time. A cat-free home is preferred. She loves to sleep beside her person on the human bed and enjoys chewing on stuffed toys, though she tends to pull out the stuffing.

Ongoing Health

Poppie had dental disease and underwent surgery to extract 7 teeth. She also has a grade 2 luxating patella on her left hind leg, which causes a "skipping" gait but does not cause her pain. She is on a daily joint supplement and a home exercise routine 4-5 days a week to strengthen the ligaments around her knee.

Training & Support

Poppie is house-trained but needs to be taken out frequently as she does not give cues. She sleeps through the night without needing to go out until after she wakes up. She enjoys eating but is fed low-calorie vegetables like zucchini, cauliflower, and broccoli due to her past weight. She travels well in the car and is friendly with everyone at the vet, except when needles are involved. Poppie is non-reactive to other dogs and people in crowded settings. She enjoys walks and can walk a bit and ride in a stroller, a routine that should continue. Her forever person will need to continue her 10-minute knee exercises forever.
