A little about them

Dango is a sweet, spirited three-legged Shiba Inu puppy with a big personality and an incredible zest for life. He is playful, curious, confident, affectionate, and loves exploring, car rides, people, and his foster siblings. Despite his difficult start and leg amputation, he runs, plays, and keeps up remarkably well.

Ideal Home

Dango would thrive with an experienced Shiba Inu owner who understands the breed’s independent, mischievous nature and occasional dramatic vocalizations. He enjoys other dogs and could live with a friendly, playful canine companion or as the only dog with plenty of attention and interactive play.

He loves people and can live with gentle children aged 6 and older. Rough handling and play are not suitable for him. A securely fenced yard would be ideal but is not required, and a home without frequent long flights of stairs is preferred. His adopters should be comfortable with shedding and regular brushing.

Ongoing Health

Dango arrived with a leg deformity and spinal and leg anomalies. He has had a leg amputated, is healing beautifully, and moves remarkably well. He will always have some twist in his spine, but it currently causes no issues and needs no intervention.

He is up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. He must be neutered as part of his ongoing care, with the procedure covered by the adoption fee. His family must follow veterinary recommendations and live within one hour of Cambridge, Ontario so he can return to the rescue’s veterinarian.

Training & Support

Dango is crate trained, settles easily, sleeps 8–10 hours overnight, and can stay crated for a few hours during the day with an appropriate bathroom break. House training is progressing, but he does not yet ask to go outside independently and needs outdoor breaks every 45–60 minutes when out of his crate.

He knows his name, sit, lie down, and come, and is highly motivated by treats. Positive reinforcement, patience, consistency, clear boundaries, continued socialization, and ongoing training will be important. Obedience classes and post-adoption training are required. He is not currently suited to a home where everyone is away for a full workday.
