Fergus, estimated to be 2 years old, is a handsome mixed breed with a beautiful, wavy, mid-length coat, possibly with some Cardigan Corgi in his lineage. He was found as a stray and likely abandoned by his previous family. This experience has left him understandably nervous and fearful of people and new environments. Despite the best efforts of his rescuers to make him feel comfortable with gentle singing, quiet sitting, and sweet talk, he still struggles with his fear. He's been nicknamed Fergie by one of his caretakers, who finds him very cute. When his kennel door is opened, he tends to dart out quickly to go outside and then rushes back in, a behavior that has been captured on video! Because of his shy nature, it's been challenging for his rescuers to fully assess his personality, and they are cautious about trying new things with him that might set back his progress. Fergie is looking for a very special person who can offer him a calm and safe environment where he can finally feel secure and loved.
Ideal Home
Fergie would do best in a home with older children and would be comfortable with female dogs, as he seems to enjoy their company. He is also house-broken and has shown a tendency to mark if around male dogs.
Ongoing Health
Fergie will be neutered before adoption. He has a past leg injury that healed without vet care; while it doesn't seem to bother him now, it may in the future. He is microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative.
Training & Support
Due to his nervousness, his leash training, use of a pet door, and crate training are currently unknown. It is also unknown how well he travels in a car or what his favorite play activities and toys are. His compatibility with cats is also unknown.
